MOMENTUM Routine Immunization Transformation and Equity is a program funded by the U.S. Agency for International Development (USAID) to accelerate improvements in maternal, newborn, and child health services. The program is implemented by JSI Research & Training Institute, Inc. (JSI) with partners PATH, Accenture Development Partnerships, Results for Development, Gobee Group, CORE Group, and The Manoff Group under USAID cooperative agreement 7200AA20CA00017.
The program focuses on four key result areas: Access to and Equitable Use of High-quality Information, Care, and Interventions; Capacity to Deliver Evidence-based, High-quality Services; Adaptive Learning, Use of Evidence, and Global Leadership; and Cross-sectoral Collaborations and Innovative Partnerships. In 2021-2022, the program made significant progress in these areas, with notable achievements in each result area.
In Result Area 1, the program worked to increase access to high-quality information, care, and interventions. This included supporting the development of district health information systems and providing training to healthcare workers on essential health services. The program also implemented a range of interventions to improve maternal and child health outcomes, including the provision of family planning services and the promotion of exclusive breastfeeding.
In Result Area 2, the program focused on building the capacity of healthcare workers to deliver high-quality services. This included providing training on essential health services, supporting the development of district health information systems, and promoting the use of evidence-based practices. The program also worked to improve the quality of healthcare services through the implementation of quality improvement initiatives.
In Result Area 3, the program emphasized the importance of adaptive learning, the use of evidence, and global leadership. This included supporting the development of district health information systems, providing training to healthcare workers on essential health services, and promoting the use of evidence-based practices. The program also worked to improve the quality of healthcare services through the implementation of quality improvement initiatives.
In Result Area 4, the program focused on cross-sectoral collaborations and innovative partnerships. This included working with a range of partners, including governments, civil society organizations, and the private sector, to improve maternal and child health outcomes. The program also supported the development of innovative solutions to improve healthcare services, including the use of technology and the promotion of community-based initiatives.
The program also provided support for COVID-19 vaccination efforts, with a focus on increasing access to vaccines and improving vaccination coverage. This included working with governments and other partners to develop and implement vaccination strategies, as well as providing training and technical assistance to healthcare workers.
In addition to its work in the four result areas, the program also placed a strong emphasis on learning and adaptation. This included conducting regular evaluations and assessments to identify areas for improvement, as well as using the findings of these evaluations to inform program decisions and activities. The program also worked to disseminate knowledge and best practices to a wider audience, through the use of reports, briefs, fact sheets, webinars, and other knowledge products.
The program’s work was supported by a range of partners, including governments, civil society organizations, and the private sector. The program also worked closely with other USAID-funded programs and initiatives, including the MOMENTUM suite of awards.
In terms of geographic focus, the program worked in a number of countries, including the Democratic Republic of Congo, Ethiopia, Ghana, Haiti, Kenya, India, Kyrgyzstan, Madagascar, Mali, Mozambique, Niger, Nigeria, Serbia, South Sudan, and Vietnam. The program also worked with a range of stakeholders at the national, district, and community levels.
Overall, the MOMENTUM Routine Immunization Transformation and Equity program made significant progress in 2021-2022, with notable achievements in each of the four result areas. The program’s work was supported by a range of partners and stakeholders, and was focused on improving maternal and child health outcomes in a number of countries.
