Haiti is in a protracted food-crisis that has been worsening since 2018. While food insecurity levels were already high in 2020 and 2021 due to COVID-19, political instability and economic decline, in September 2022, for the first time, Cité Soleil, one of the most vulnerable and gang-controlled neighborhoods in Port-au-Prince, was classified with approximately 19,000 people in IPC Phase 5.
