The Feed the Future Programme d’Appui à la Rentabilisation de l’Elevage, a livestock development initiative in Haiti, began in 2018 with funding from the U.S. Agency for International Development. The program aims to improve the livelihoods of smallholder livestock producers through enhanced productivity, market access, and resilience to shocks and stresses. The initiative is implemented by Land O’Lakes Venture37 in collaboration with local stakeholders.

The baseline assessment, conducted in November 2023, provides a comprehensive overview of the current situation of livestock producers in Haiti. The study focuses on cattle, goat/sheep, and poultry producers, examining their production systems, market access, and household resilience. The assessment also explores the availability of inputs, services, and markets, as well as the impact of shocks and stresses on household livelihoods.

The baseline report highlights the challenges faced by livestock producers in Haiti, including limited access to inputs, services, and markets, as well as high levels of poverty and food insecurity. The report also notes the importance of gender and youth inclusion in livestock development, with women and young people playing critical roles in livestock production and marketing.

The assessment was conducted using a combination of quantitative and qualitative methods, including surveys, focus group discussions, and key informant interviews.
