The 2016-2025 Food Assistance and Food Security Strategy of the USAID Office of Food for Peace (FFP) aims to improve and sustain the food and nutrition security of vulnerable populations. This strategy builds on the FFP 2006-2010 strategic plan, drawing on lessons learned during its implementation and embracing new approaches and tools to increase the impact of U.S. Government food assistance.
FFP’s new strategy focuses on building the resilience of vulnerable communities, including their food and nutrition security, as a key component of the U.S. Government’s larger goals of ending extreme poverty, enhancing stability, and spurring economic growth. The strategy is designed to maximize the full range of tools available to FFP, from American food commodities and specialized nutrition products to locally-sourced foods and complementary programming.
The strategy is guided by a shared vision of a world free of hunger and poverty, where all people live in dignity, peace, and security. FFP’s commitment to this vision is reflected in its annual budget of more than $2 billion, which is used to support both humanitarian response and development programs in areas of recurrent crisis. The strategy is also informed by evidence-based learning and is designed to be flexible and adaptable to changing circumstances.
FFP’s programming framework is centered on three key objectives: improving food security, enhancing nutrition, and promoting resilience. To achieve these objectives, FFP will focus on several key interventions, including emergency food assistance, development programs, and capacity building for local partners. The strategy also emphasizes the importance of coordination and collaboration with other parts of USAID and the U.S. Government, as well as with international partners and local stakeholders.
The 2016-2025 Food Assistance and Food Security Strategy is a critical component of the U.S. Government’s efforts to end hunger and poverty. By building on the lessons learned from previous strategies and embracing new approaches and tools, FFP aims to increase the impact of U.S. Government food assistance and make a meaningful difference in the lives of vulnerable populations around the world.
