This study provides specific findings on digital platform work for web-based tasks in Latin
America and the Caribbean (LAC). The rapid and significant growth of this modality of work
is due, in part, to new technological advances. However, it was especially noticeable after the
2008 economic crisis and, more recently, spurred by the COVID-19 pandemic. While it opens
up many new job opportunities, it also represents significant challenges in terms of labour
rights.
