National Agricultural Investment Plan

The Haiti National Agricultural Investment Plan, developed in response to the 2010 earthquake, outlines a comprehensive strategy to revitalize the country’s agricultural sector as a foundation for food security, economic recovery, and social stability. With an estimated investment of approximately USD 772 million, the plan targets three main areas: (1) development of rural infrastructure (including watershed management and irrigation), (2) production and development of key agricultural sub-sectors (such as livestock, aquaculture, crop production, and post-harvest management), and (3) strengthening agricultural services and institutional support (including extension, land tenure security, and research). The plan emphasizes both immediate interventions to address urgent food needs and longer-term programs to modernize and boost productivity, aiming to benefit over 530,000 families and create sustainable rural employment. Implementation involves strong collaboration between government, private sector, NGOs, and local communities, with a focus on gender equity, environmental sustainability, and resilience to natural disasters.
